Explore the alphabet and get creative with our colourful hello typeblocks, a multi-purpose collection that’s also great for grasping, stacking, building and colour sorting.
Our unique hello typeblocks are ideal for early years play and learning. The starter set of 20 blocks forms letters A-Z and the colourful pieces are also perfect for assembling 2D and 3D creative masterpieces. Hello typeblocks, goodbye boredom.
The collection can be expanded with a first words set of 41 blocks (for spelling short words) plus boost sets of 9 that include one extra piece of each block type.
Ideal for gifting, this set comes with a luxury cotton storage bag.
Materials and usage
Each piece is handcrafted and finished using eco-friendly, vegan-friendly, sustainable and locally sourced materials. The set is varnished to provide a hardwearing and wipeable finish that is VOC, solvent and BPA-free (gentle to the environment and little hands).
Independently CE tested and certified safe from birth.
We recommend these toys from when children can sit unaided.

Starter set contains 20 pieces
First words set contains 41 pieces
Boost set contains 9 pieces
Piece size: handcrafted shapes of varied sizes from 35 x 35 x 18mm up to 35 x 195 x 18mm
While the dimensions are exact, each piece has its own distinctive character that sets it apart from a mass-manufactured children’s toy. Unique characteristics such as differences in wood grain are a hallmark of our handcrafted and small batch production processes. Colour batches may also vary across time. To achieve colour matching between multiple sets we recommend that these are purchased concomitantly.

All toys are designed and crafted by me, Dr Hellion. Join me on Instagram for a look behind the scenes at Hellion HQ in the Forest of Bowland where I bring our high quality, durable and eco-friendly collections to life. When I’m not cutting, engraving or sanding wood I’m busy hand-finishing each toy. I dye, paint and varnish my creations with great care to make sure they are ready to leave the workshop and begin their adventures in the world.
Part of what makes your Hellion collection so special is that no two toys are exactly alike – you are buying a one-off, handcrafted item. Unlike mass-manufactured toys, mine will have subtle variations from one piece to the next. The wood will have different grain, knots and natural markings. It will absorb paint, varnish and dyes differently as a result. You may also see brushstrokes, uneven lines and elements that add to the character of each piece.
I aim to keep a low carbon footprint by sourcing materials locally from other independent businesses, typically within 20 miles of my workshop. I also avoid petroleum-derived paints, finishes and plastics of any kind. My collections are plastic-free, solvent-free, VOCs-free, BPA-free and vegan-friendly. I hope that you will cherish these toys and pass them down to be loved by the next generation. To protect each piece, a special eco finish is applied that will continue to harden naturally over several weeks.
I take my role and responsibilities within the heritage craft of British toymaking seriously. I am a member of the Heritage Craft Association as well as the British Toymakers Guild who uphold the very highest standards of craftsmanship and design. My toys are independently lab safety tested and certified CE. Hellion Toys is a member of the trade organisation ACID (Anti Copying in Design) and our designs are supported by ACID through their IP Databank and Marketplace.

So clever! These fantastically clever type blocks are fab! They are beautifully tactile and are being enjoyed by both my 8 month old and my 3 year old. My only criticism is that I neeeed more! 😂 There are many ways these are used in our house at the moment- to create words, to build walls (and knock them down again!) as edging to train tracks and many more small world ideas. As an adult who loves wooden toys, these are up there with the best.
